Licensing sales of fireworks

When do you need a licence to sell fireworks?

Fireworks can only be sold to the public during the following periods:

  • 15 October to 10 November
  • 26 December to 31 December
  • on the first day of the Chinese New Year and the three days immediately before it
  • on the day of Diwali and the three days immediately before it.

If you intend to sell fireworks at any other time, you need to get a licence from Trading Standards.

In addition, you must register your premises with Trading Standards if you intend to store fireworks. More details are on our page about explosives and fireworks licences.

Apply for a licence to sell fireworks

The annual fee is £500 and the licence must be renewed annually.
