Our business profile

Annual Spend

We currently spend approximately £220 million annually on a wide range of goods and services.

To obtain best value, a significant proportion of our purchasing is done under our own contracts or under joint contracts with other councils or government bodies. Our contracts can be viewed from the Current contracts pages of this website.

Working with local businesses

Local suppliers are encouraged to tender for business and we are working with a number of partners to make it easier for companies in East Sussex to do business with us. A key partner is Sussex Enterprise which operates the Business Link service. For further information on our tender policies and processes, visit our page about How to tender for business with us.

In order to encourage effective trade with local businesses, the Council has signed-up to the government's SME Concordat and to the Voluntary Sector Compact.

Our e-procurement programme

We have a substantial e-procurement programme within the Council which will introduce electronic tendering, electronic ordering of goods and payment of suppliers. This will lead to improved efficiency and a reduction in costs for us and those who do business with us.

For details of the electronic procurement projects we are currently working on see E-procurement.

Procurement strategy and improvement plan

Following the government's three-year National Procurement Strategy, we have developed and are implementing our own Procurement Strategy and Procurement Strategy Improvement Plan.
